HomeRise opened 5th Street Apartments, located in the South of Market neighborhood, in late 2013. 5th Street Apartments houses, serves, and supports Transitional Aged Youth (TAY). TAY are defined as individuals from 18 to 25 years of age who are homeless or at high risk of being homeless. Many TAY are young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. The innovative service delivery model for 5th Street Apartments includes an intensive workforce development program for TAY.
THE BUILDING
The property consists of 44 units with shared bathrooms and a community kitchen. Other amenities include a community room, rooftop deck, support services offices, and a laundry room. A centralized Training and Development Center for HomeRise clients is still in development and will be located on the ground floor.
THE TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Training & Development Center at 5th & Harrison opened in 2014. The 2,800 square foot space is on the ground floor of the building and was built out specifically for training and development. The classroom space allows multiple set up options to meet each training course’s specific needs. The center features a computer lab with laptop and desktop computers, allowing computer skills to be incorporated into training programs. The Training & Development Center provides HomeRise’s residents opportunities to build their professional skill sets and become self-sufficient. Staff have the tools and space needed to work more efficiently with the transition-age youth who live here.
